What We Do

The Digital Media Center supports the use and creation of multimedia in education, scholarship, and creative expression. Towards this end, we provide hands-on training, consult with patrons on digital projects, and offer access to the essential tools for creating digital resources such as web pages, digital images, digital video, digital audio, PowerPoint presentations, and animations.

At the DMC, you may:

  • * Scan slides, documents or images, including oversized objects
  • * Capture or digitize video, edit it using FinalCut Pro or Premiere
  • * Digitize audio from record, tape, mini disc, or CD, and edit it using SoundForge
  • * Record narration, a conversation, or a song with Logic or Audacity in our sound editing booth.
  • * Check out a digital camera, digital camcorder, minidisc audio recorder, edirol digital audio recorder, microphone, or tripod. Please note that you must supply your own recording media (e.g. miniDV tape, minidisc, DVD, etc).
  • * Create your own DVD-Video with DVDStudio Pro
  • * Duplicate DVDs or CDs (up to 25 copies at a time) with Disc Publisher.
  • * Create animations using Flash
  • * Create web pages using Dreamweaver
  • * Create or edit graphics using applications such as Photoshop, Freehand, and Illustrator
  • * Use one of the DMC's linguistic corpora or multimedia CD-ROMS
  • Receive informal, hands-on training in any of the applications listed above.
  • (Appointments are recommended and may be made by calling 713-348-3635 orĀ  emailing dmc-info@rice.edu.)
