The Owlet Program is an any-time
recognition system intended to
acknowledge and demonstrate
immediate and spontaneous
appreciation for the contributions
of Fondren staff.

Form of Award

  • The program consists of personal, handwritten thank you notes written by Fondren staff to fellow staff members, which make the recipients eligible to participate in a monthly Owlet drawing for a $25 bonus.
  • Recipients will also be recognized more publicly, by an e-mail from the library director, distributed to all library staff.

Submission Process

  • Write the note. A blank thank you notecard will be made available to all staff, to be used to write a personalized thank you, which will serve as on-the-spot acknowledgement of that person's contribution.
  • Notify the Owlet Committee. The note writer should use the Submission Form to notify the Owlet Committee of the note having been written, so that the recipient will be entered in the monthly bonus drawing.
  • Note: recipients may also visit the Owlet web page to contact the Owlet committee to be sure their name has been entered in the monthly drawing.
  • To be fair, no anonymous note information can be accepted for inclusion in the monthly bonus drawing.

Award Schedule

  • Staff are encouraged to write a thank you note at any time to recognize the efforts of their colleagues.
  • Thank you note information received by the Owlet Committee by the last working day of the month will be entered into that month's drawing, to take place on the first working day of the following month (i.e, nominations received by Friday, October 29, 2005 will be entered into the November pool, the drawing for which will take place on Monday, November 1, 2005.)

Award Amounts

  • Awards, in the form of a bonus added to the recipient's paycheck, will total up to $25, depending on budgetary constraints.
  • One bonus will be presented as a result of each monthly drawing.

Owlet Eligibility

  • Any staff member may write an Owlet to anyone, whether they are Fondren staff or not, and all recipients will be recognized in the monthly Owlet LIBSTAFF e-mail from the Library Director, but only Fondren staff will be eligible for the monthly cash drawing.

Monthly Bonus Drawing Process

  • The monthly drawing for the bonus funds will take place on the first working day of each month for the previous month's awards.
  • The Owlet Committee will coordinate the drawing of names, which will be witnessed by one member of the Library Administration.
  • Owlet note recipients may not win the monthly drawing twice in a row. In such a case, the committee will draw another name.

Owlet Program Facilitation

The Owlet Committee will be responsible for the facilitation of the program:

  • Creation and dissemination of award information, announcements, and monthly participation reminders via e-mail, FondraNet website, staff bulletin board, and other media as appropriate
  • Maintaining supplies of printed "Owlet" award notes
  • Gathering monthly Owlet information and sending it to Fondren Library Director for her LIBSTAFF posting
  • Conducting monthly drawing for bonus money and forwarding winner's information to Business Manager to facilitate bonus money being added to recipeint's paycheck.
  • Maintenance of program web site on FondraNet.
  • Coordinate appointment of new committee members with Library Administration

Owlet Committee Structure

  • The Owlet Committee will be comprised of 5 staff members, being a composite representation, as best as possible, of the library staff, and will be selected by the sitting committee each December.
  • Terms will be one year, January-December.
  • 2005 Committee Members: Amanda Focke, Andy D'Amico and Robert Estep. Please contact any committee member with questions or suggestions.
