- Houston-born Ralph Anderson Jr. (1923-1990) studied architecture at Rice Institute and earned a bachelor's degree in 1943. The papers from 1860-1989 cover a broad spectrum of Ralph Anderson's life, including his family, school, university years, his combat service in World War II with the U.S. Army, and his professional life as an architect. 10.25 cubic feet (with an additional .75 cu. ft in vault).

- Briggs, Frank. Mohole Project. ca. 1960-1981 (MS 401)
- Papers and materials related to the Mohole Project, which was an attempt to retrieve a sample of material from the earth's mantle by drilling a hole through the earth's crust to the Mohorovicic Discontinuity, or Moho. The drilling project lasted from 1961 to 1966. The collection includes publicity pieces, magazine articles, correspondence, project business records, designs, plans and a manuscript titled "Project Mohole." 15 inches.

- John Brown wrote this letter from Grigsby's Bluff and gives news of the people there. Grigsby's Bluff was located on teh Neches River in Eastern Jefferson County. It name was changed to port Neches in 1901. One letter written in 1862.

- This collection includes "Notices on the Life of Lord Byron by Moore and Remarks on Those Notices by Lady Byron," part of an article which poet Thomas Campbell published in 1830 decrying Moore's biography of Byron and defending Lady Byron in the matter of the couple's separation. Other writings describe a holiday on the Isle of Wright and other topics. Seventeen items are included ranging from 1807-1843.

Craig was a Rice University history professor from 1946-1970 and the University Librarian from 1954 to 1968.

- A statement by Robert A. Crain of his participation in a gunfight near Natchez, Mississippi. The fight involved Jim Bowie, among others, and resulted in the death and wounding of several people.
- Craw, Elizabeth. Diary. 1833-1841. (MS 386)
- The collection consists of the personal diary of Elizabeth Craw (1819-ca.1909), which records her journey from Ohio to see her soldier fiancé in Texas, and her experiences there. Craw’s fiancé fought and died at the Battle of the Alamo. The diary covers the years 1833-1841. 1 folder (1 bound volume).

- A leather-bound hand-written diary kept by John C. Crosby, during the United States Civil War while Crosby served in the Seventh Maine Regiment of the Union army (probably as a hospital orderly).

- The manuscript diary is by a young German girl from the Saarland area of Germany, possibly from a wealthy Catholic family. The bulk of the diary pertains to the girl's personal life and daily activities; however, comments about conditions in Germany during the war are also found in the work.

- The Dillingham Family papers follow the history of a prominent Texas family through correspondence, manuscripts, printed material, photographs, journals, poetry, and newspaper clippings. The family moved into Texas during the prosperous era of the late nineteenth century and played an important role in developing both the social and economic framework of Houston.

- John A. Dix was commissioned Major General by President Lincoln in 1861 and served in administrative positions during the Civil War, issuing the military pass in this collection during that time. After the war he was minister to France (1866-69).

- Dunban, John R. Letters. 1864-1865. (MS 150)
- This collection consists of letters written John Dunban wrote this collection of letters between 1864 and 1865 to his family at the end of the Civil War. Dunban served in Co. H. 77th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers and writes about his family and their farm and news of his regiment, including unfair elections, the "dumb ague," mutinous feelings in his regiment, and the treatment of deserters. The letters also contain descriptions of Texas and Louisiana. (12 items)
