Abstract: A certificate of limited partnership for the purpose of setting up firm of "R.J. French" to purchase and sell goods from July 1, 1852 to July 1, 1857. The agreement was between general partner Richard J. French and special partners William M. Rice and Ebenezer B. Nichols.

Historical Note

This certificate of limited partnership served the purpose of setting up firm of "R.J. French", "for purchase and sale of goods, wares, and merchandise of all sorts, buying and selling cotton and other produce in trade, barter, or on commission..." from July 1, 1852 to July 1, 1857. The agreement was between general partner Richard J. French of Washington County, Texas, and special partners William M. Rice of Houston and Ebenezer B. Nichols of Galveston.

William M. Rice founded the Rice Institute with funds earned through extensive trade efforts and other investments before his death in 1900.
