Biographical NoteAugusts Ehinger was born in Speyer, Rhein Phlaz, Bavaria, on September 14, 1821 and came to the United States with his parents at the age of twelve. He lived in Ohio, Illinois, and Iowa where he died on January 9, 1881. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsThe diary of Augustus Ehinger begins June 15, 1846 and ends June 28, 1847. The diary chronicles Ehinger’s travels and experiences as a private in the Second Illinois Regiment during the Mexican-American War.
