Biographical NoteMoses Austin Bryan was born in Herculaneum, Missouri in 1817, the son of James Bryan and Emily Austin Bryan (sister of Stephen F. Austin). He moved to Texas in 1831 after his father's death. Bryan became Stephen F. Austin's secretary in 1835, served in the Texas army, and took part in the battle of San Jacinto. He was aide de camp and interpreter for Sam Houston and in 1839 was appointed by Mirabeau B. Lamar as secretar to the legation to the United States under Anson Jones. Bryan died Brenham in 1895.
