- The records of the Twenty-Six Literary Club document the activities of this women’s social and philanthropic club established in 1909 by a group of Houston women residing in the Woodland Heights neighborhood. 1910-1994 (5 boxes)

- Copy of 1982, 500 page manuscript typescript of an unpublished novel with a West Texas setting by John Anderson, a 1976 graduate of Rice University.

- Typescript and galley proofs of Oren Arnold's "The Golden Chair", published 1954, winner of the Southwest Literary Award. Mr. Arnold is a former student of Rice University where he was editor of the student newspaper. (1 box)
- Austin, Sarah. Letters. ca.1800-1850. (MS-119)
- Two letters written ca. 1800-1850 by Sarah Austin, a writer, translator, and wife of jurist John Austin. One letter relates to the dangerous illness of her brother; the other refers to her stay at Bonchurch and mentions that she had written a letter to <i>The Times</i> with references to Shakespeare's house. 1 folder (2 letters).

- Correspondence, articles and photographs of Stockton Axson, first Chair of the English Dept., Rice Institute, and one of the Institute's most well known lecturers and teachers. (3 boxes)
- Barnes personal papers, 1926-1998 (MS 491)
- The bulk of these papers represent Marguerite Johnston Barnes’ writing and journalism career, from her early college years to her lengthy career at the Houston Post newspaper. Included are photocopies of her articles, columns, reviews and editorials, typescripts of her works, photographs, and a small amount of family and biographical materials. (12 boxes)

- These papers are comprised of the research materials Marguerite Johnston Barnes gathered to write "Houston, The Unknown City," published in 1991 by Texas A & M Press. Included are oral histories, newspaper clippings, photocopies of secondary source materials, brochures, newsletters, and photographs. (32 boxes)

- This collection contains papers of John Boles, a professor of history at Rice University. The collection spans the years 1972-1988 and consists of 4 cubic feet.
- Briggs, Frank. Mohole Project. ca. 1960-1981 (MS 401)
- Papers and materials related to the Mohole Project, which was an attempt to retrieve a sample of material from the earth's mantle by drilling a hole through the earth's crust to the Mohorovicic Discontinuity, or Moho. The drilling project lasted from 1961 to 1966. The collection includes publicity pieces, magazine articles, correspondence, project business records, designs, plans and a manuscript titled "Project Mohole." 15 inches.

- Sir Francis Cowley was the editor of "Punch" magazine. His correspondence reflects the people he worked with and the material he dealt with. 50 items. 1861-1908.
- Campbell, Thomas. Collection. 1807-1843. (MS 140).
- This collection includes "Notices on the Life of Lord Byron by Moore and Remarks on Those Notices by Lady Byron," part of an article which poet Thomas Campbell published in 1830 decrying Moore's biography of Byron and defending Lady Byron in the matter of the couple's separation. Other writings describe a holiday on the Isle of Wright and other topics. Seventeen items are included ranging from 1807-1843.

- The collection consists of two letters, some poetry and a copyright document belonging to J. L. Chester, an American poet, genealogist and antiquarian. The letters were written in 1843, n.d., and 1880.
- Confederate imprint collection, 1861-1865 (MS 71)
- Ca. 1,050 Confederate imprints printed during the U.S. Civil War era consist of official and unofficial documents of the Confederate and State governments and cities. Formats include handbills, recruiting posters, sheet music, sermons, isolated laws and regulations, and fiction and non-fiction books. (16 boxes)

- Copybook with sermons, fable and letters. The name John Grubb appears on the bookplate inside the front cover. (1 bound volume)
- Craig, Hardin, Jr. Papers. 1934-1972. (MS 358)
- This collection consists primarily of Hardin Craig Jr's research notes and copies of his "A Bibliography of Encyclopedias and Dictionaries Dealing with Military, Naval, and Maritime Affairs," and other research materials. Craig was a Rice University history professor from 1946-1970 and the University Librarian from 1954 to 1968.
- Cruikshank letters, 1845 and 1868 (MS 297)
- Two original letters by George Cruikshank, British caricaturist and book illustrator. The first (1845) is written to Angus B. Reach, the novelist. The second (1868) is addressed to Capt. Hurley and accompanied by one of Cruikshank's illustrations.
- Cunningham papers, 1815-1841 (MS 320)
- The bulk of these papers consists of correspondence to and from art historian Allan Cunningham, largley concerning matters connected with Cunningham's numerous publishing projects, including his "Lives of the Most Eminent British Painters, Sculptors, and Architects", which appeared between 1829 and 1833. - DeZurko architecture research papers, 1953, 1957 (MS 347)
- The papers of Edward DeZurko consist of a draft of DeZurko's 1953 doctoral dissertation "Functional Trends in Writing Pertaining to Architecture with Special Emphasis on the Period ca. 1700-1850" and a galley proof of "Origins of Functionalist Theory". (2 boxes)
