The full text of most Rice dissertations and theses is available online in the Rice University Digital Depository.

Print copies are available in the library basement. See floorplan.

To locate theses and dissertations in the library catalog you can:

• Search by author or by title keyword.  If you are looking for dissertations from a particular department, do a keyword search:  type rice thesis and department name.  Example:  rice thesis and chemistry.

• Searching by subject will seem to work but it is not the best choice because current dissertations do not have Subject Headings assigned.

Searching and requesting Non-Rice dissertations

Rice does not routinely collect many non-Rice dissertations. If they are in the library, they will be searchable in the Catalog.

Dissertations & Theses (ProQuest) (1861 - ) includes citations for masters and doctoral dissertations from 1861 to those accepted as recently as last semester; those published from 1980 forward also include 350-word abstracts, written by the author.  Citations for master's theses from 1988 forward include 150-word abstracts. The database represents the work of authors from over 1,000 North American graduate schools and European universities. The full text of dissertations and theses (Rice, 1918- ) may also be downloaded free of charge.
