Guide to finding novels and short stories in Fondren Library. just a little bit different formatted
Fondren Library has a large collection of fiction, old and new. However, because of the size of the library, it may be difficult to find what you are looking for. Here are some hints.
Finding New Fiction
Fondren Library has two collections of current fiction:
- the Friends of Fondren Fiction Collection
and the
- Leisure Reading Collection.
Using the Library Catalog to Locate Fiction:
By title:
- In WebCat, click browse, then type the title of the book, omitting beginning articles (English or foreign) such as “the”, “a”, “la”. Then click title.
- Examples:
For Title You Type The Mill on the Floss mill on the floss La Peste peste - If Fondren has the title as you typed it, you will see it on or near the second line of a list. If the computer does not find the title, you will see a list of alphabetically similar titles.
By author:
- In WebCat, click browse, then type the author’s name, last name first, and click author. If Fondren has books by the author,ou will see a list of authors with the name you typed on or near line two. Click on the name for a list of titles by your author.
By keyword:
- You can search WebCat for fiction with a particular theme or setting by doing a keyword search. Click keyword, type fiction, and, plus a keyword, and click search everything..
- Examples:
fiction and russia fiction and theater - Note: This will produce many "false drops" (books about fiction, etc.), but will bring up some fiction titles.
Browsing the shelves:
You
can browse the shelves by looking in the following call number ranges:

These
call number areas will include fiction in the original language and in
translation as well as scholarly works about literature.
