How to locate books and periodicals in the Fondren Library catalog
WebCat, the catalog for Fondren Library, lists the books, periodicals, and other materials held by the library (including the Business Information Center, the Fine Arts Library and the Government Documents Department). To access the catalog, go to the Fondren Web Page and click on catalog.
To Find Books By An Author:
Click Browse, then type the author’s name, last name first, and click AUTHOR. If you are looking for a multi-author work, type only one author’s name. You will receive an alphabetical list of authors including the name you typed if it is found. Click on the name for a list of titles.
To Find A Book By Title:
Click Browse, then type the title, omitting English and foreign beginning articles (such as: a, an, as, the, der, el, le). Then click TITLE. You will receive an alphabetical list of titles including the title you typed if it is found. Click on the title, then click on view for more information including availability.
To Find A Journal, Magazine or Newspaper:
If you are looking for a magazine, newspaper, or journal, click Browse, then type the title of the periodical (not including beginning articles). Then click PERIODICAL TITILE. You will receive a list of periodical titles including your title if it is found. Be sure to click on the title that matches your request, then on the view icon, in order to find out what volumes are available.
To Find Books By Keyword:
If you are looking for books on a topic, click on Keyword. Then type the word or words describing your topic and click on SEARCH EVERYTHING. You will get a list of records containing the word(s) you typed. The records are sorted from newest to oldest.
Note: Two or more words typed together will look for words in the same part of a record, but not necessarily adjacent. For example, typing the phrase wild west will look for instances when both words occur in the title or subject heading, or in some other part of the record.
For a more advanced keyword search use the following techniques:
