Borrowers' Responsibilities
- For Rice University community members, a valid Rice student, faculty, or staff photo ID is required to check out materials at the Circulation Desk.
- For Rice community borrowers, various notices will be sent to Rice email accounts, which should be checked periodically for notices from the Library.
- For non-Rice-affiliated borrowers, a Friends of Fondren, HARLiC, OCLC or Fondren Library Card is required to check out material, along with a photo ID (e.g., driver's license, passport.)
- All borrowers can check their accounts online with their PIN (Personal Identification Number) obtained from the Circulation Desk. Notices about upcoming due dates and overdue materials are a courtesy, and borrowers should return material in a timely fashion even without electronic or written notice. Due dates are stamped on date slips when material is checked out. When materials are renewed online, it is advisable to note the new due date on the date slip.
- Rice IDs and borrowers' cards are not transferable and can only be used by the person whose name is on the card.
- Report lost IDs and address changes to the Circulation Desk. You are responsible for all items charged to your account.
- Materials should be returned to the Circulation Desk or to the book drop at either entrance of the library. Bring overdue materials directly to the Circulation Desk to pay fines.
- Materials should be checked out no later than 15 minutes before the library closes.
-
- Borrowers should be aware of when the library closes, especially on weekends, holidays and during the summer, and plan accordingly. The Library's hours are online and available as handouts from the Circulation Desk.
