| VPN does not:

| First install the VPN client and RiceNet.pcf as per instructions. |
| VPN needs to be activated by you before you attempt to connect to a "Rice only" resource (such as the library's online journals and databases). |
| VPN will continue operating until you disconnect it - VPN will slow down your computer's network traffic and so should be active only when needed |

| First configure your browser as described in the instructions on the Rice proxy website. Having completed this configuration, you will need to make no future updates - the browser will automatically capture the current Rice proxy permissions file every time you connect to the internet. |
| When you attempt to login to a IP-restricted, web resource listed in the proxy file, you will be prompted to sign in using your standard Rice username and password. See the login screen at https://proxy.rice.edu/login.php to see what this looks like. The proxy will automatically provide you access to all proxied resources for 2 hours. (After 2 hours will you be asked to reconfirm/log back in.) |
