Frequently asked questions about equipment and assistance
- Availability of Training: On-the-spot training of GIS software use is available as time and projects allow. Users are encouraged to sign up for short courses offered throughout the semester or make an appointment for one-on-one training by emailing gisdata@rice.edu.
- The Center's primary clientele are Rice faculty, staff, and students.

- Government Documents Depository Materials: Any U.S. Federal Depository materials used in the GIS/Data Center are free for use by anyone in the General Public and are also available through the Government Publications Department.
- Storing Data: All patrons are encourage to store their data in their personal accounts or in their own storage devices. The GDC has zip drives, DVDs and CDs available for additional storage and offers a temporay storage that is cleared off at the end of each semester. Anyone wishing to keep their project files in the GDC beyond the duration of one semester, please speak with the GDC director.
Plotting at the Center: The GIS/Data Center allows plotting of GIS related posters or maps. These include maps or posters produced from GIS files/software. Please note that Mudd 109 lab does have a 36”x150’ plotter available. Their cost is $3 /linear foot. More information on printing locations is available from Rice IT.
