Getting Ready for Extreme Weather: Community Preparedness for Climate Disasters

Please join us to discuss how to prepare and respond to extreme weather events, primarily hurricanes, flooding, extreme heat and extreme cold. Jim Blackburn, co-director of Rice’s Severe Storm Prediction, Education and Evacuation from Disasters Center, will join us to talk about Houston and flooding.

As the climate changes, extreme weather events will become more common, making preparation key to responding to these emergencies. In 2020, Rice University’s Fondren Library became a designated Communities Respond to Extreme Weather (CREW) Climate Resilience Hub for the Houston area.  Hubs like Fondren equip community members with the tools needed to help stay safe during extreme weather.  Please join us for this timely discussion, during which we will share information, resources and tips so you can be prepared when the next weather emergency strikes.

This event is made possible through the American Library Association “Resilient Communities: Libraries Respond to Climate Change” pilot grant program that Rice University’s Fondren Library won last fall.
