Overview:

Learn the basics of using the molecular visualization tool ChimeraX to explore protein structures and create high-quality figures for posters and papers.

Participants will learn to:

Load and view protein structures
Use different visualization styles
How to label and annotate proteins
Measure distances and align structures
Export figures and animations

Great for students taking BIOS 310 or anyone conducting protein-related research!

None, though knowledge of the Center for Research Computing's services or previous Research Computing workshops would be helpful.

Overview:

Rescheduled from March 5 to March 31, 2025.

Come to this workshop to learn how to productively combine Rice's research computing and data storage offerings to support your research. We will demonstrate how to process your data on our computing systems and how to move data between those systems and our data storage platforms.

Topics include:

Processing data on the NOTS cluster, on the RAPID cluster, and on an ORION Virtual Machine
Storing data on Rice's Research Data Facility (RDF) and on the Open Storage Network (OSN)
Moving data to, from, and between all of the above services
Using data-moving tools such as: scp, GLOBUS, Cyberduck, boto3 python library, rclone, etc.

This workshop has been rescheduled from Tues., Feb. 4 to Tues., Mar. 11.

In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of photogrammetry, its applications, and how to process images using Agisoft Metashape. Designed for beginners, this session will introduce essential concepts and provide hands-on experience with creating 3D models and geospatial data from photographs.

Topics include:

Introduction to photogrammetry: principles and real-world applications.
Best practices for capturing images for photogrammetric processing.
Step-by-step guide to processing images in Agisoft Metashape.
Generating and analyzing 3D models and geospatial outputs.
