Defense Against Deception: Spotting Misinformation & Manipulated Data

Effective research is no longer just about finding articles; it is about navigating a complex ecosystem of data, media, and algorithms. In this two-part series, we build your research toolkit from the ground up. We begin by mastering critical techniques for verifying data and spotting misinformation in the wild. Next, we apply these skills to the newest frontier—Generative AI—teaching you how to evaluate machine-generated content with the same rigor you apply to human sources.

Join our hands-on workshop, Defense Against Deception. In this workshop, you will learn how to use lateral reading to identify misinformation and disinformation. In addition, this session will introduce the SIFT method and other data literacy techniques to keep you from being fooled by bad charts and shady statistics.
