World Bank Data Resources and Beyond (Zoom)

Scope

  • Are you interested in issues related to poverty measurement, the delivery of social services, trade, migration, and a broad spectrum of other topics associated with development?
  • Are you looking for reliable global data to conduct your research?
  • Do you need long term, comparative data by country?
  • Are you seeking reports, technical papers, working papers, and studies to support your research papers, publications, or grant applications?
  • Do you want interactive data for your presentations?

The World Bank is one of the most important international financial institution that provides loans and grants to the governments of low- and middle-income countries for the purpose of pursuing capital projects. Its website contains a wealth of research resources and data banks that are worth exploring. This class will provide an introduction and live demonstration of navigating four major World Bank online resources:

  • Online World Bank Open Data
  • World Development Indicators database
  • Open Knowledge Repository
  • World Bank Projects and Operations resource collection

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to practice under the guidance of the instructor to use the resources taught in the class to find information to answer basic prompt questions. After the class, students should gain increased confidence in efficiently using the World Bank website to find pertinent information for their research endeavors.
