DMC Studio Policies

The DMC Audio Studio (B42D) and Video/Photography Studio (B42E) are reserved exclusively for Rice University students, faculty, and staff. A valid Rice ID is required for use.

No After-Hours Studio Use

• To ensure user safety, the studios may only be used during regular operating hours when staff are on-site.
• Because of our high-performance soundproofing (installed July 2025), building alarms cannot be heard from inside the studios. For your safety, all sessions must conclude by closing time. No exceptions can be made for after-hours access.

Use of smoke/fog machines, pyrotechnic or incendiary devices of any kind, or open flames is prohibited in the studios. 

• These items can trigger fire alarms and suppression systems, leading to unnecessary building evacuations and potential equipment damage.

Reservations

• The studios are available for booking during the DMC open hours.
• Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance using the self-booking feature in Primo.
• Reservations are up to 4 hours.
• Unclaimed reservations will be released after 30 minutes.
• One reservation per 24-hour period. If you need to use the studio multiple times within the same 24-hour period, contact DMC staff.

Studio Check-in and Check-out

• Whether you have reserved the studio or are a walk-in user, come to the DMC service desk to check out the studio key.
• Ask DMC staff for help if you are in doubt when using the studio. 
• Tidy up the space when you are done.
• Return the key to a staff member at the DMC service desk.
