2020-21 Library Ambassadors

We are looking for new Ambassadors for Baker, Brown, and McMurtry Colleges!

Fill out the Fondren Library Student Ambassador application to apply for the 2020-21 academic year. We will be meeting via Zoom during the fall semester.

Academic Year:  Senior

Major:  Biochemistry & Cell Biology 

Bio:  I am a senior at Martel College from Charlotte, North Carolina. I grew up as a dancer and singer, and I am happy that I get to continue to pursue both of these things at Rice. I am studying Biochemistry, and I hope to complete an MD/PhD program after college. I also love to read, and I really love Fondy! 

Favorite Book: The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls 

What do you wish everyone knew about Fondren Library? In the basement of Fondren, the Digital Media Center has really cool equipment including cameras, audio recorders, and computers. 

How many years have you been an Ambassador? 2 years 

What do you look forward to as an Ambassador? I look forward to enhancing the Fondren experience for Rice students!

Major: History and Sociology

Bio:  Hello! I'm from a small town called The Colony, TX. I love taking walks and doodling to clear my mind. I'm super excited for my second year at Rice and to be a Library Ambassador!

Favorite Book: Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

What do you wish everyone knew about Fondren Library? I wish people knew about the vast amounts of resources that Fondren provides for students, from classes to umbrellas!

How many years have you been an Ambassador? It's currently my second year!

What do you look forward to as an Ambassador? I'm looking forward to working with fellow library ambassadors and staff to make Fondren a better resource for students.

Bio:  I am originally from Austin, Texas. I’m also a member of the women’s cross country and track team here at Rice. 

Favorite Book: Harry Potter series, specifically Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 

What do you wish everyone knew about Fondren Library? How much time and energy goes into making Fondy a great resource for students! 

How many years have you been an Ambassador? 3 years 

What do you look forward to as an Ambassador? I look forward to being able to take suggestions from my peers and work with the library to see them happen.

Academic Year:  Sophomore

Major:  Mechanical Engineering

Bio:  I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, with my two brothers and parents. I am planning on majoring in mechanical engineering, but I also love art history, classics, and studio art.

Favorite Book: Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

What do you wish everyone knew about Fondren Library? I wish everyone knew about the courses and events put on by the different departments throughout the week.

How many years have you been an Ambassador? This is my second year working for the library. I have worked at the Kelley Center at the Government Information desk, and for the UX Office as well.

What do you look forward to as an Ambassador? I hope to spread awareness about all the resources available at Fondren so that my fellow Jonesians have more confidence navigating the library, both in-person and online. I also look forward to sharing student feedback with the library staff so that we can make the library more accessible.

Major:  Computer Science

Bio:  Hi, my name is Richard. I’m an international student who enjoys playing basketball, reading, and hanging out with people. I’m super easy to come talk to, and generally, easygoing. I’m usually either in the Wiess commons or a Fondren study room or walking somewhere between.

Favorite Book: Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown or Supermarket by Bobby Hall.

How many years have you been an Ambassador? It's my second year.

What do you look forward to as an Ambassador? As an ambassador, I look forward to being able to help everyone at my college (Wiess) to make the best use of the resources available to them at Fondren, and to help Fondren be the best resource it can be to the students at my college.

Academic Year: Sophomore

Major: Biosciences/Genetics major and medhum minor

Bio: Hi, I’m Emma and I’m your Sid Rich Library Ambassador! I’m a sophomore Biosciences/genetics major and medhum minor from Dallas who really enjoys deep talks, coffee, dancing, and meeting new people. You can usually find me at Sid, coffeehouse, XA, dance practice, or studying at Fondren!

Favorite Book: Inkheart, by Cornelia Funke

What do you wish everyone knew about Fondren Library?  I want everyone to be aware of all the extra opportunities Fondren has to offer including study resources, helpful workshops, writing assistance, study breaks, and events including voter registration!

How many years have you been an Ambassador?  This is my first year as an Ambassador!

What do you look forward to as an Ambassador? I am excited to get to learn and share more about what the library has to offer students, and to serve as a liaison between Sid and Fondy!

What do you wish everyone knew about Fondren Library? There are a lot of useful courses offered at Fondren, like classes teaching you how to use data analysis programs. 

How many years have you been an Ambassador? This is my second year!

What do you look forward to as an Ambassador? I’m excited to work with my fellow Ambassadors and library staff to improve people’s experience at Fondren as much as possible.

Academic Year:  2021

Major: Economics and Social Policy Analysis

Bio:  I am a Will Rice junior hailing from Nashville, TN. Passionate about a variety of civic issues, I have loved getting to live in Houston and learn about the city throughout my time at Rice. Fondren Library has played a big role in allowing me to do interesting projects and develop the technical knowledge to work with software like GIS and R. In my free time, I love being outdoors, hiking, and listening to a good podcast. 

Favorite Book: Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson
