Defense Against Deception: Spotting Misinformation & Manipulated Data

This is part 2 of a three-session series "Research Smarter: A Toolkit for the Information Age."

Effective research is no longer just about finding articles; it is about navigating a complex ecosystem of data, media, and algorithms. In this series, we build your research toolkit from the ground up. We begin by mastering professional library resources and search strategies, then move into critical techniques for verifying data and spotting misinformation in the wild. Finally, we apply these skills to the newest frontier—Generative AI—teaching you how to evaluate machine-generated content with the same rigor you apply to human sources.

This course expands on lateral reading, the SIFT method, and data literacy techniques to keep you from being fooled by bad charts or fake news.
